(Or, at least, those one might ask)
So, who is Dave T. Koenig?
That's a little vague, don't you think?
Good point. Let's start with this whole Bison Man deal. What is going on there?
Well, to make a long story short, it's a nickname I got in high school that I carried with me into college. I don't think there's anyone who knew me well during high school or college who didn't know about the Bison Man, and it seemed like the right name for my own web site. I'd tell you the complete story, but I have vowed never to document it anywhere. It's a story that's much more fun to tell in person.
Where did you go to school?
I graduated from Manhasset High School, and after a cup of coffee at the University of Connecticut, I landed at Hofstra University. At Hofstra, I quickly got involved with their Communications Department, which helped me realize my interest in broadcasting. Hofstra provided a ton of hands-on programs, and I was able to host a variety of television and radio programs. I also made some really good friends there.
Where is your base of operations?
I'm currently in Queens, just 15 minutes from NYC. I intend to stay in this area long-term, though I am available for short-term work in other areas of the country/world.
Your work resume mentions you won some FOLIO Awards. ?What are they?
The FOLIO Awards are given out annually by the Long Island Coalition for Fair Broadcasting, and they recognize "excellence in broadcast journalism" (their words, not mine). I am proud to say I received five such awards over a three-year span during my time as a news anchor and reporter at WALK-FM.
Did your friend Pete really run on the field at Shea Stadium?
Yep.
Who designed this web site?
Yours truly. After leaving Metro Networks, I took time off from being a broadcaster to concentrate more on the production end of the industry. This was invaluable, because I earned a great respect for the production process. It also led me to the Internet, which has become as big a passion as broadcasting. I consider myself a fairly knowledgeable programmer and designer at this point, with experience in HTML, PHP, MySQL, FTP, Java, Perl, Cold Fusion, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and more every day.
Why all the references to professional wrestling?
After being a closet fan for years and years, I got more involved back in 1999, when a couple of friends and I founded WrestleStock.com, Inc. That brought my wrestling jones right out into the open, and I got more involved in the sport than I ever thought I would. I'm glad to say I did, as it allowed me to meet some terrific people and have a chance to live out some nutty fantasies like doing play-by-play for matches and getting my face slapped in the middle of the ring.
If you could do anything else besides what you're doing now, what would it be?
Starting at catcher for the New York Mets. That statement, of course, is made with all due respect to Brian Schneider.
