Very Cool News on ''The Calderons''
Nihili-HUH? Arrested De-WHAT???

November 28, 2006

I got an e-mail the other day from the evil genius Dan McNamara, who announced that The Calderons has been accepted into the 2006 Nihilist Film Festival! The Nihilist Festival, which has been around since 1999, celebrates truly thought-provoking projects. Their site lists all of the films that have shown there. I thought it was pretty cool that the film that won First Prize at last year's fest starred Dian Bachar, who was awesome as Kenny 'Squeak' Scolari in BASEketball. The NFF will take place on December 10 at Track 16 Gallery in Santa Monica, CA. Dan himself may actually trek out there himself. Be there! As if that news weren't enough, Dan also pointed me to his website, www.danmcnamara.com, where he posted the following comment: "The Calderons is a highly original, wonderfully schizophrenic comedy that is equal parts special effects mastery and detailed character work." Not bad, huh? Who said it? Mitchell Hurwitz, the guy who created Arrested Development. I can't really do much to embellish that, other than to say I saw Mr. Hurwitz on the dais as part of a panel discussion during the New York Television Festival, but I wasn't aware he'd even seen The Calderons. Have to admit -- that is pretty sweet.
