Oh, Yeah... I Was in a Play
Time keeps on slippin', slippin'...
Time keeps on slippin', slippin'...

For a record TWO times in a row, I'm posting news of a project after it opened and closed. I know it's good to be busy, but I must get on the ball here. Anyhoo, I was lucky enough to be part of A Night of One Acts produced by NYU and the Tisch Talent Guild. The three plays performed were written by students and selected from a pool of dozens (hundreds, even!) for production. It's an annual event and the result of a lot of hard work by students who are busy enough with Trig 101 and stuff. I was in a play called James Dean for a Day, written by Emilie Whelan. It's a series of five monologues inspired by the characters in Lou Reed's rock classic Take a Walk on the Wild Side. My part was of The Man, a voiceless everyman who interacts with the five characters. The end result sees my character learn from each of their unique stories. The director, Matthias Lehman, had some amazing concepts for the play and challenged us to make each interaction special. He came to NYU after a successful career directing in Europe, and it was interesting to compare my approach as an actor with his as a director. While I'm at it, I should mention my highly talented castmates, with whom I enjoyed working with immensely (so much so I whipped out the good grammar). Michael Blatt - AEA, Danielle Kehoe, Stephane Magloire, Anna Roberts, and Michael Rudez were all on their game for the shows, and made my challenges easy to tackle. Hats off as well to the crew behind the production, as they worked their tails off and never get enough credit.
